How to get people to donate? – Never done this before?

forgotmyscarf asked:

I don’t really know too many people or have much of a close family to ask to donate to my school’s organization where we’re having an event along with other organizations and just groups of people to collect money for American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. I’ve never done anythign like this before, so can someone give me tips of where I can go and what I can do? The event has people in teams of 8-15, with each person having to collect at least $100, and my group are participating. Thanks.

I suggest asking places where you spend your money, area restaurants you frequest, your hairdresser, doctor, dentist, etc. You could also get some friends together and stand outside a Wal-mart (get their permission first) and sell purple ribbons for a donation.

You could make a T-shirt and sell it to people around school. You could have a raffle for some prizes you get donated from area businesses.

Do luminary sales go towards your team total at this Relay? Sell luminaries. They are easy to sell because everyone wants to honor a loved one they’ve lost to cancer or who is still fighting.

    Good luck and have fun!
